Don’t forget the flowers!
I scan the news everyday and it can be disconcerting.
War, violence, shaky stock markets, job losses, political fights, lawsuits, virus scares, disease, new studies that refute the old ones, disaster predictions, you name it!
My favorite team or person might win, jobs added, promising cures, somebody does something good or right, and new tech toys help me feel better for a moment.
I take news with potential negative effects on people seriously. I do what I can within my limited realm of consciousness to help. I try to get the word out and vote but I’m often duped by the story of the day. It can be difficult and impossible to make good decisions when I don’t know all the facts.
I’m an old hippie (though not as old as a lot of them). 🙂 I choose to pay attention to my surroundings for my own protection, but I also like to notice the flowers of life, the trees, wild animals, birds, the swamp in all its green glory. I like to see the bees on my clover and bugs in my yard. I even like dandelions. (sorry if you’re my neighbor)
A lesson I’ve learned more recently is to appreciate the people I am around on a daily basis including strangers. I can say at the very least I’m trying harder. I’ve noticed I’m at the age where I am seeing many friends and acquaintances pass away. I try to be nicer to people, talk to strangers, and offer my help to people who may need help. I may not see them again, they might not see me again, and I may just have some small positive lasting affect on them. I might make a difference.
Like my crazy friend Bill says at the end of almost every FB post. XOXO
