Measuring Time

Infinity, forever, eternal. What do they mean?
I am fascinated by the idea that it is even possible to think about what they mean.
They are words that we use to measure time and distance.
Distance is how far or near, or big and small something is.
Time is how long (long really is distance) it takes to get there.
How can there be forever?
How can there not?
I am sure philosophical people have pondered this since thinking was invented.
I think it’s been proven useful in the past to ponder questions that are seemingly beyond understanding.
First: In an infinite existence there is no first since the existence has always been.
Also, if something has no beginning or no end, how can it even exist at all?
In spite of this, here it all is anyway!
Is the earth just a tiny speck in space?
How can we really measure it? In infinity the earth is neither small or large.
If anything is neither small or large, than how can we say it exists?
The point is “we do” say it exists.
Philosophically we are “tied up” or “bound” to the rest of infinity.
It gives the “we think, therefore we are” meaning.
Rene Descartes, when he said “I think therefore I am” seems to have meant that we have an absolute self or ego.
Or as Wikipedia says of Descartes: “While other knowledge could be a figment of imagination, deception or mistake, the very act of doubting one’s own existence serves to some people as proof of the reality of one’s own existence, or at least that of one’s thought.”
Maybe if we simply believe that we are “part of” rather than “separate from” all other existence we will cease to be separate.
Or maybe we just THINK we are separate, and we really are not, no matter what we think.
I’m sure it is a frightening thought to some people and entirely dismissed by others.
I feel like infinity is reality and that we have no intrinsic separate existence. I believe if a person can not only realize but internalize it than the results will be felt externally to all of existence. Or more simply put: If people realize that we are all in the same boat and in fact we are the boat, than people will get along easier.
Still, many people do not get along and it could be argued that they never will.
Does that mean I should go North if everyone else seems to be going South?
Obviously, there are many philosophies, religions, atheists, etc.
I’m just thinking in the infinite scheme of things, that these differences are minute, cannot be possibly measured (in infinity) so really do not even exist.
So remember, if your head hurts after reading this, it really doesn’t! 🙂
