Coast Guard Flight Mechanics

We are Coast Guard Flight Mechs.
It means more than just fly.
We fix them on the ground.
And test them while they fly.
We stay up half the night.
To make their engines run.
And fly the other half.
Looking for someone.
That’s been called overdue.
Declared emergency.
Thought they saw a flare.
Or maybe lost at sea.
We look for fishing boats.
Illegal aliens too.
Bust drug runners galore.
And save a few lives too.
Some have jumped off bridges.
To end their lives real quick.
If and when we find them.
We feel a little sick.
We pluck them off of rooftops.
From flooding to earthquakes.
Off sinking boats and burning ships.
A plane crash in the lakes.
We’ve pulled climbers from cliffs.
And stranded folks from cars.
Look for polluted waters.
While flying under stars.
We carry scientists.
And sometimes doctors too.
Politicians fly with us.
Concerned at times, it’s true!
Off course we cannot do all this.
Without a little fear.
After all we do it.
Every day of every year.
