Memorial Day 2013

I wonder how many people feel free, because those who’ve died for you and for me.
I live where I please and work at a job, I can quit any time to live under a log.
I can practice religion and say what I will, respecting of course the way others feel.
I can marry, have kids, stay single, divorce, though freedom is always a struggle of course.
Even during peace time not all will agree on just how to implement what we call free.
Not everyone has every right they deserve, that’s why we have voting and freedom to serve.
Memorial day is for those who have died for the rights and debate that keeps freedom alive.

Peace makes us free, not war, however some countries have tried to rob freedom and peace from us in the past and some still are. How can I not respect the ones who have died fighting oppression so I may not be oppressed? I believe it is never desirable but it may well be that we die in the face of danger and oppression even if we choose not to fight.
