Pain in the neck

I slipped a neck disk and it hurts but I don’t really care.
I did it surfing in Hawaii while I still lived there.
It’s been thirty years ago but I still pay the price.
When it hurts I lay around on pads of heat and ice.
The doctor always gives me drugs to try and ease the pain.
The drugs just make me loopy and write poems to keep me sane.
Of course they want to operate and fix me up real good.
I’ve heard some horror stories and I just don’t think I should.
Anyway It’s not that bad, It’s decent most the time.
It wouldn’t bother me at all, except this neck is mine.
