Words

Words fascinate me. Larry Tate and Darrin on Bewitched taught me when I was very young how words can be used to sell anything. Since then I’ve been aware of or maybe wary of the way words are used in news articles, books, and to sell toys whether they are toys for children or big ticket toys for me. While some pictures are worth a thousand words and reign king on FaceBook, words are often the clincher, insult, or the plain salt or sugar to our taste buds. Chilling is a word that seems to be overused nowadays. In a way I’m glad the winter is taking a little nip out of the negative use of the word with snow being chilling and beautiful though not always desirable by everyone.
Was it the beer companies who originated the marketing term “born on date”? That one cracks me up. I buy water in bottles from Walmart because it tastes better than our tap water. I always buy the cheapest usually Great Value or Sams, but sometimes Deer Park is the cheapest. It’s amazing to me and I guess not unlike color or music preferences how Deer Park just sounds better than Great Value though I don’t know why. I can’t tell the difference between bottled water brands and that’s probably a good thing though some of you probably can. I was amused today to notice on my bottle of Deer Park water today the term “born better”. I guess I should feel better now. Come to think of it, I do seem to have a little more pep in my step after drinking it. 🙂
